Accounting has not always come easily to me. In the past, I would have considered myself more of the artsy or creative type. After a number of years as a stay-at-home mom with four children, I was forced to become financially literate when my husband started his own business. While he worked on growing his business and expanding his skills, I took on crunching the numbers and managing our household finances plus the business finances. There was a learning curve but I found I enjoyed the work and even took on some formal learning, earning a Bookkeeping Certificate from Conestoga College. 

As someone who never considered myself a "natural" when it comes to accounting, I understand how it feels to be confused by organizing and managing financial records and transactions. I also understand the feeling of being responsible for your own earnings and taxes, and how having your own business sometimes feels like having a "baby" that you want to take the best possible care of.
